As a new diverse vendor (seeking qualification: not part of UPMC-approved construction vendor list and/or has never conducted business with UPMC or UPMC Health Plan), we welcome your engagement with the UPMC Presbyterian tower project.

Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Enterprise Focus

  • Promoting inclusion of new businesses to address vendor diversity gaps. 
  • Providing mentoring support or mentor matchmaking opportunities necessary to facilitate sustainable business practices.
  • Providing special opportunities to mentor / protégé businesses that support the experience and qualifications necessary to operate independently. 

A diverse vendor is defined at UPMC as either:

  • Minority-Owned Business (MBE) A business in which at least 51% is owned, controlled, and managed daily by an individual from one or more of the following races/ethnic groups: African Americans, Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, Indian Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans.

  • Women-Owned Business (WBE) A business in which at least 51% of the company is owned, controlled, and managed daily by a woman. 

  • LGBT-Owned Business Enterprise (LGBT) A business in which at least 51% of the company is owned, controlled, and managed daily by an individual who is lesbian, gay, bi-sexual or transgender. 

  • Disability-Owned Business Enterprise (DOBE) A business in which at least 51% of the company is owned, controlled, and managed daily by an individual with a disability. 

  • Veteran-Owned/ Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise (VOB) A business in which at least 51% of the company is owned, controlled, and managed daily by a veteran or a veteran with a disability.

  • Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) An organization affiliated with the National Industries for the Blind, the severely handicapped, or any other organization recognized as serving or representing those who are physically or developmentally disabled, for example, Sheltered Workshop.
