What is the Telestroke Network?
Using state-of-the-art telemedicine technology, our Telestroke Network allows our neurologists to remotely evaluate and diagnose patients who are experiencing strokes and make treatment recommendations to emergency physicians.
If you experience a stroke and live outside the Harrisburg area, prompt stroke evaluation increases the chances that you will be able to receive "clot-busting" therapies or other stroke treatments before your stroke causes serious brain damage, which can sometimes result in permanent disability or death.
What happens during a Telestroke consultation?
During a telemedicine consultation or examination, a nurse or physician will be present to provide you with any required on-site care. You and your UPMC specialist in Central Pa. will be able to see and hear each other via a Telemedicine robot.
