The term survivorship refers to the time after most or all of your breast cancer treatment is completed. Survivorship comes with it’s own unique blend of relief, joy, fears, concerns and responsibilities. As a breast cancer survivor you may have different feelings than before your illness or during your treatment, and your priorities are also likely to change. This is now your new normal.
Communication with your UPMC Breast Care Center team can play a vital role in the quality of your life after treatment. We encourage you to share your fears, concerns and even your goals and dreams with us. This will allow us to customize your survivorship care plan so that you can get the most out of life after treatment.
UPMC Breast Care Center Survivorship Clinic in Central Pa.
Our Survivorship Clinic provides patients with an outlet for continued support and referrals to help manage treatment and diagnosis related side effects. Every cancer patient is enrolled into the program once diagnosed, and their care will be followed till they reach the end of treatment.
Our survivorship visit is a longer visit that wraps up treatment. At this visit, we will discuss and review your diagnosis and treatment as well as ongoing, late and long term effects that may be experience and health maintenance strategies to improve outcomes and minimize residual effects. This visit provides survivors with detailed information to share with primary care providers regarding follow up care and recommended screening to help close the gap that may exist between providers. We will also provide referrals to all appropriate resources to help manage treatment related side effects.
Our team will work with other UPMC providers to help you access the support you need for your emotional, physical and social concerns. We can also connect you with local non-profit groups and government agencies if necessary.
