Pittsburgh is a city that boasts beautiful parks, acclaimed museums, lively cultural events, and a passionate sports culture, among other attributes – including a nationally recognized food scene. It’s also home to UPMC’s innovative, internationally recognized Department of Plastic Surgery.
When making the decision to undergo surgery, whether cosmetic or reconstructive, you want to be in expert hands, in a place you can trust. At UPMC, we take care of you every step of the way, from your first consultation to your postsurgical follow-up care.
Surgery Scheduling for Traveling Patients
We are mindful of the unique needs of traveling patients. That’s why we work with you to make sure that the transition from your first consultation to the day of surgery is as seamless as possible. Depending on your type of surgery, your first consultation will either be by phone or conducted in person prior to surgery.
Phone consultations often include a video call, so the surgeon can see you and better determine your surgical needs. We’ll work with you to schedule your surgery, typically within two months of your consultation, depending on the type of procedure. All surgery scheduling and preoperative tests are completed prior to coming to Pittsburgh.

Postoperative Care

For patients staying one night, a follow-up appointment will be scheduled approximately two weeks after surgery. Patients recovering from multiple procedures will have longer stays and can expect to follow up with their surgeon at least twice while still in Pittsburgh.
