UPMC Expands Rural Health Care Access With Mobile Health Center

UPMC

December 5, 2024

WELLSBORO, Pa. – UPMC unveiled its new Mobile Health Center, a cutting-edge clinic on wheels, designed to bring high-quality health care directly to rural communities across northcentral Pennsylvania. This innovative initiative ensures that individuals facing transportation barriers, or other social determinants of health, receive the care they need without compromise.

“This is more than a vehicle – it is a lifeline to those who may not have access to preventative screenings, vaccinations, or health education,” said Kari Kurtz, director, Community Outreach, UPMC in North Central Pa. “By bringing care to the community, we’re addressing critical gaps in health care access. And just as importantly, we encourage community members to advocate for their needs, working with us to shape services that provide the personalized care they deserve.”

During the unveiling, attendees toured the mobile health unit and learned about its role in delivering essential health services to underserved areas. Starting in 2025, the unit will have its main presence in Tioga and Potter Counties, with additional opportunities coming to Clinton and Lycoming Counties when needed.

This vehicle was fully funded by generous donors of Susquehanna Health Foundation, including a $250,000 lead gift from an anonymous donor, major contributions from Friends of UPMC Wellsboro, Horace B. Packer Foundation, National Fuel Gas Company Foundation, Laurel Health Foundation, The Charles Knox and Margaret Etner Foundation, UPMC Wellsboro Auxiliary, and several meaningful gifts from community donors.
