UPMC Senior Communities Nurse Recognized with DAISY Award

UPMC

October 9, 2023

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lynn Zimmerman, LPN, Muncy Place, part of UPMC Senior Communities at UPMC, was recently recognized as a recipient of the DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses.

Zimmerman was nominated by a patient’s family member who shared:

“My mom was a resident at Muncy Place for rehab twice in the past year following surgeries for a broken femur, then again for a broken ankle. She received excellent care from Lynn each time. Whenever she came into the room, she was always cheery, and that made mom happy. Along with Lynn’s positive spirit, she was always on top of her medication needs. In addition, she offered little tidbits of knowledge, like how drinking water would help her kidneys and blood pressure. Lynn displayed the same qualities to mom’s roommate, too. At times, when mom needed it the most, Lynn was like an angel for her. Not only her excellent bedside personality, but also in how she explained things to a new staff nurse or travel nurse was so nice to hear. Lynn’s attention to detail was incredible. For these reasons, I nominate Lynn Zimmerman as a DAISY Award recipient. She truly is a compassionate, positive, and knowledgeable nurse. Mom was so lucky to have had her.”

The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 in California by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 from complications of an auto-immune disease. During his eight-week hospital stay, his family was impressed by the care and compassion his nurses provided, not only to him but to everyone in the family. They created the DAISY Award in his memory to recognize those nurses who make a big difference in the lives of so many people.

UPMC is proud to be a DAISY Award partner. Nurses are nominated by patients, family members of patients, as well as other healthcare professionals. DAISY Awards are presented to nurses at UPMC in North Central Pa. monthly. Each DAISY Award Honoree is given a DAISY Award pin, a certificate of honor, and a stone sculpture entitled, A Healer’s Touch, handcrafted by a tribe in Zimbabwe. Anyone can nominate a nurse for the award including co-workers, patients, patient family members, or physicians. To nominate a nurse, visit UPMC.com/ThankaNurse.
