HARRISBURG, Pa. – UPMC Harrisburg, including UPMC West Shore and UPMC Community Osteopathic under the same license, has been recognized as the area’s top hospital for 2026-2027 by U.S. News & World Report. The hospital was ranked No. 1 in the Harrisburg Metro area which includes hospitals in Dauphin, Cumberland and Perry counties, and No. 7 in Pennsylvania among U.S. News’ latest edition of Best Hospitals. The recognition affirms UPMC’s local and national reputation for quality and innovative care.
“Being ranked as the top hospital in our region is an important milestone and a powerful reflection of the extraordinary dedication of every UPMC team member,” said Elizabeth Ritter, president of UPMC Harrisburg, UPMC West Shore and UPMC Community Osteopathic. “This recognition is not the result of one individual or department, but a testament to our shared commitment to advancing care, improving patient outcomes and serving our community with excellence.”
In addition to being ranked as a top hospital, UPMC Harrisburg was also ranked as high performing in the following conditions and procedures:

U.S. News evaluated nearly 4,500 hospitals across 14 adult specialties and 23 procedures and conditions; only 16% of evaluated hospitals earned a Best Hospitals designation. This year in particular, the rankings increasingly focused on patient outcomes, reflecting UPMC’s approach to care.
