HARRISBURG, Pa. – UPMC’s Healthy Harrisburg initiative is launching its summer 2024 session to provide free, accessible fitness opportunities for the Harrisburg community. In preparation for the July session, Healthy Harrisburg is hosting class demonstrations on Tuesday, July 23, at their new location at 1000 Paxton St., Harrisburg. The program’s new location provides a larger exercise space as well as additional free parking.
The goal of Healthy Harrisburg is to positively impact the holistic health and wellness of city residents via various offerings, including free fitness classes, health education, mental wellness sessions, and family fitness involvement. Cohort participants can sign up for the program’s free classes, including Yoga, African Dance, Soul Line Dancing, Xtreme Hip Hop Step and Walk It Out. The summer 2024 cohort starts on Monday, July 29, and will run for eight consecutive weeks. Registration is required and available on a first come, first served basis.
In addition to the class demonstration on July 23, an open house with healthy refreshments, fitness assessments, and class registration will be held on Wednesday, July 24, and Thursday, July 25.
“Healthy Harrisburg connects the community with UPMC health care experts, faith communities, fitness professionals, and city leadership to help the citizens of Harrisburg kick start a healthier way of life,” said Tina Nixon, vice president, Mission Effectiveness and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, UPMC in Central Pa. “The program is really fun. But it’s also a way to break down barriers for participants who suffer from chronic disease and illness so they can get the care they need.”
