June 12, 2024

HARRISBURG, Pa. – UPMC’s Department of Mission Effectiveness and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is partnering with Harrisburg City Council member Lamont Jones to host Violence Prevention: Ending Gun Violence in Our Community. The event will raise awareness about gun violence, provide prevention resources, and result in community-developed solutions.

Gun violence is a growing problem in the United States. CeaseFirePA estimates that 1,600 Pennsylvanians die from gun violence annually, with an additional 3,000 residents injured.

The event will feature panel discussions, talk back sessions and information tables from community organizations dedicated to violence prevention. Attendees will hear from healthcare professionals, community leaders and citizens affected by gun violence. Participants will leave the event with actionable tasks to help reduce gun violence in Harrisburg. A box lunch will be served.
