A cardiologist specializing mostly in noninvasive cardiovascular imaging, Dr. Harinstein since November 2019 has been responsible for overseeing clinical practices and quality at UPMC’s international operations in Italy, Ireland, China and Kazakhstan. In this role, he leads development of policies related to UPMC International’s medical activities and supports UPMC medical directors located outside of the United States.  While sharing best practices between UPMC’s Health Services Division and UPMC International, he has been involved in coordinating and expanding UPMC’s clinical service lines overseas, particularly the UPMC Heart & Vascular Institute.

 

Dr. Harinstein's areas of interest include cardio-oncology, acute heart failure syndromes, transcatheter aortic valve replacement outcomes, assessment of right ventricular function in liver transplant candidates, cardiac risk assessment of solid organ transplant candidates and clinical trials studying new pharmacologic agents. He has published numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts, is a reviewer and member of the editorial board of the American Journal of Cardiology, and is involved on a national level with the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology.

 

Dr. Harinstein received his medical degree from Loyola University Medical Center in Illinois. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Northwestern University followed by a fellowship in cardiology at UPMC. He received his master’s in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh.
