Our Experts at the Center for Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery

Nicole Donnellan, MD, is an assistant professor in the division of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. She is head of gynecologic surgical simulation training, having developed and now currently overseeing curriculums for robotic and laparoscopic training for the 40 obstetric and gynecology residents at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC.

Dr. Donnellan received her undergraduate degree from Middlebury College in 2000 where she graduated magna cum laude and was a 4-year varsity athlete on the swim team. She received her medical degree from University of Pittsburgh in 2006. She completed her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Magee-Womens Hospital in 2010, and then completed a two year fellowship in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at Magee in 2012. As a fellow, she was honored with the teaching award, a prestigious award given by the residents annually to the best fellow teacher.

Dr. Donnellan’s clinical practice focuses on minimally invasive treatment options for women with a wide variety of gynecologic issues including abnormal bleeding, fibroids, pelvic pain, and endometriosis. She takes pride in developing personalized treatment plans, working together with each and every patient to allow her to regain control and improve her quality of life.

In addition to Dr. Donnellan’s dedication to her clinical practice, she also devotes much time to clinical research. She currently is investigating cellular inflammatory response in patients with endometriosis in an attempt to better elucidate the pathogenesis of such a common, debilitating disease. Other projects focus on genomic profiling of endometriosis as well as exploring patients thoughts and perceptions of sexuality as it relates to hysterectomy.

Richard Guido, MD, is Associate Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences. He has been performing minimally invasive gynecologic surgery for more than 20 years, and is the director of the Fibroid Treatment Center of Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC.

Dr. Guido received his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He attended MIT for graduate work in engineering.

Dr. Guido received his medical degree from the University of Rochester. He did a one year internship in surgery at the University of Rochester, and a four year obstetrics and gynecology residency at Magee, where he was the assistant chief resident.

He has published extensively in the areas of fibroid and cervical dysplasia. He has an extensive research career, and is the Chair of the Institutional Review Board for the University of Pittsburgh.

In 2008, Dr. Guido founded the Fibroid Treatment Center, which offers minimally invasive therapies, including radiofrequency ablation of fibroid and uterine artery embolization. He is one of the few physicians in western PA who treats fibroid using radiofrequency ablation.

Dr. Guido is dedicated to training the next generation of minimally invasive obstetricians and gynecologists. He has multiple teaching awards and has been named to the Best Doctors list on multiple occasions, including Best Doctor for Women in Pittsburgh Magazine.

Ted Lee, MD, is the Director of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC.

Dr. Lee earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in 1992. He completed his residency training in Ob/Gyn at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, and matriculated to the Physician Leadership and Management Program at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Business.

Dr. Lee strongly believes in the use of surgical videos as an educational tool for advancing the art and science of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. He has received multiple awards for his efforts, including best surgical video presentation by the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He is also the only five-time winner of the prestigious Golden Laparoscope Award for best surgical video at American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL).

A highly-regarded lecturer and surgeon, Dr. Lee has taught and performed live surgeries around the world. He also was featured as one of the three Master Surgeons in the Steel Surgeon Event at the 2014 AAGL World Congress, and is repeatedly nominated by his peers as one of the "Best Doctors" in America since 2004.

His devotion as a clinician-educator is evidenced by his successful mentorship of minimally invasive surgical fellows since 2001. His fellowship has placed the highest number of fellows in major academic institutions among all of the AAGL MIGS fellowships since its inception. His fellows have obtained leadership positions in major academic institutions throughout the country and abroad, including University of Pittsburgh, Cedars-Sinai, Harvard/Beth Israel, University of Florida, University of Wisconsin, Loyola University Medical Center, American University of Beirut, Stanford University, and Duke Medical Center. They in turn are training the next generation of young gynecologic surgeons.

Dr. Lee’s practice is entirely dedicated to minimally invasive surgical options for women. He is a firm believer that virtually all benign gynecologic surgical conditions should be treated using a minimally invasive approach. Dr. Lee's clinical expertise includes minimally invasive surgery for treatments of endometriosis (including severe endometriosis involving bowel, bladder, and ureter); fibroids; abnormal uterine bleeding; urinary incontinence; and pelvic organ prolapse.

​Suketu Mansuria, MD, is the Assistant Director of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC. He also is the Assistant Director of the Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Fellowship.

Dr. Mansuria received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Miami as part of the highly selective Honors Program in Medicine. After obtaining his medical degree in 1999, he completed his residency and fellowship training in Advanced Gynecologic Minimally Invasive Surgery at UPMC/Magee-Womens Hospital.

Dr. Mansuria’s clinical practice is devoted to minimally invasive surgical options for women. He performs more than 500 surgical procedures per year, focusing on fibroids, endometriosis, pelvic pain, heavy periods, ovarian cysts, infertility, and other gynecologic conditions. Dr. Mansuria is a firm believer that healthcare decisions should be made with a team approach, involving both the physician and patient. He believes in educating patients on their healthcare choices and helping them choose the treatment that best suits their needs - be it surgical or non-surgical options. He has received numerous awards recognizing his compassionate and skilled care, including being named as one of the Best Doctors for Women by Pittsburgh Magazine.

Given his commitment to minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Mansuria wants to make these options available to more women. For over a decade, he has been educating residents, fellows, and currently practicing surgeons (both nationally and internationally) on minimally invasive techniques. The fellows that he has trained have gone on to create Minimally Invasive Surgery Divisions at prestigious universities, such as Harvard/Beth Israel University, Duke University, Stanford University, University of California, and University of Florida. He has been asked to speak at numerous national conferences, demonstrate his surgical techniques during live telesurgeries, present his research at national meetings, and exhibit his award-winning surgical videos to his colleagues. He also is an Editorial Board member of the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology and Chair of the Video Presentation Committee for the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.

Dr. Mansuria is a dedicated minimally invasive surgeon and strong patient advocate. He believes that minimally invasive surgery is the way of the future and that these options should be made available to all women.
