Evidence based medicine guides us as we critically evaluate new diagnostic and treatment possibilities. Consequently, it has never been more incumbent upon us to provide cost-effective care to an aging population. At The UPMC Lititz, the goal of our Internal Medicine Residency program is resident education, and the key to reaching that goal is rooted in the care of our patients.
The mission of the UPMC Lititz Internal Medicine Residency Program is to create a medical education environment to train residents in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of adult diseases. Our graduating residents are well equipped to serve as general internists and hospitalists in urban settings as well as communities with limited resources. The goal of the Internal Medicine Residency Program is to provide a wide spectrum of educational exposures and experiences in the clinic and hospital setting. These educational opportunities enable the residents upon completion of the program to be fully competent to practice medicine in the hospital and/or ambulatory setting. Integration of osteopathic principles and practice is an integral part of the program. The Internal Medicine Residency at UPMC Lititz has has achieved Continued Accreditation with Osteopathic Recognition status with ACGME. The objective of the Internal Medicine program at UPMC Lititz is to foster clinical and academic excellence in physicians.
The aims of the UPMC Lititz Internal Medicine residency is to train physicians who are able to practice in a wide variety of settings, including community(rural and urban) and academic. A focus on osteopathic philosophy and practice will remain in the forefront of all aspects of the educational program. The program aims to train physicians who are actively engaged in the teaching of medical student and residents throughout their career. Community service and engagement is an integral component of the sponsoring institution and is reflected in the emphasis on the requirement for community service during the residency. The program aims to retain graduating residents to practice in the community in which they trained and to encourage participation in a graduate medical education program as members of the faculty.
