What to Expect at UPMC Hanover's BHU
When you arrive at the BHU, you'll fill out a questionnaire.
The results help us learn the right level and type of care you need, which may include:
- Detox.
- Inpatient care in the BHU.
- Intensive outpatient mental health programs.
The team will work with you on a personal treatment plan that meets your needs during your short-term stay.
We'll also discuss your long-long term goals and design a treatment plan to support you when you leave the BHU. This may include going to another center for more treatment.

- 5 quiet, safe bedrooms.
- Circadian rhythm lighting that regulates your sleep-wake cycle and provides a more natural, relaxed setting.
Visitors to the BHU
Guests are welcome to visit loved ones in the BHU. You must pre-schedule your visit by calling 717-316-5423.
We ask that you limit your visit to 15 to 30 minutes between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Please do not bring any personal items into the BHU.
