UPMC is committed to being a Trauma Informed Organization.
What is Trauma?
“Individual trauma results from an event, series of events, or set of circumstances that is experienced by an individual as physically or emotionally harmful or life threatening and that has lasting adverse effects on the individual’s functioning and mental, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual well-being.” - From SAMSHA’s Concept Paper
Begin to ask “What happened to you?” instead of “What’s wrong with you?”

Our vision is that UPMC will be a trauma-informed healthcare system, contributing towards a trauma-informed community.
