Hospice care includes:
- On-call support, 24 hours a day, seven days a week
- Visits by the hospice team
- Personal care
- Expert management of difficult symptoms including pain, shortness of breath, nausea, anxiety, and depression
- Emotional and spiritual support for both the patient and family in how to cope with a serious illness
- Volunteer presence for companionship and respite
- Bereavement outreach
Additionally, we also offer caregiver training to help the family be confident in meeting the patient’s needs.
Most of the care we provide takes place in the patient’s home. Short-term inpatient care in a facility is available, if necessary, based on the patient’s symptom management needs. This may take place in a hospital, a skilled nursing facility, or an inpatient hospice facility.
Family Hospice operates two inpatient hospice units, one in Pittsburgh and one in Williamsport, Pa.
