NEWPORT, Pa. – UPMC’s Nurse-Family Partnership in central Pennsylvania hosted its first community baby shower on Wednesday, June. 10 at the Assembly of God Family Life Center in Newport, bringing together expecting families and a wide range of community partners to provide resources and support for healthy pregnancies, all under one roof.
Attendees connected with local experts and received information on key topics including prenatal care, breastfeeding, car seat safety, doula support and available community resources. UPMC provided families with valuable education, support, and resources to help them prepare for a healthy start for their babies. There were refreshments, door prizes, and free gifts for all participants.
“This was our first event of its kind, and the response was overwhelmingly positive, with many asking for it to return next year,” said Susan Brackbill, program manager, UPMC Nurse-Family Partnership in Central Pa. “The event brought in eight referrals in just one day. As an evidence-based program serving families across a five-county region in central Pennsylvania, events like this are critical in rural communities to increase awareness and connect families to resources.”
