Dr. Kaniecki has authored or coauthored numerous articles, book chapters and abstracts. His research interests include patient satisfaction with headache treatment protocols, the long-term effects of migraine prophylaxis, and the impact of educational programs on the performance of clinicians. He is exceptionally knowledgeable about migraine headache and its diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Kaniecki founded the Allegheny General Headache Center in 1992. That center quickly developed into the largest program in the region and served as the focal point for numerous single and multi-center clinical research protocols.

Dr. Kaniecki is a member of numerous professional and scientific societies, including the American Headache Society, the National Headache Foundation, the International Headache Society and the Primary Care Network. He has served as a consultant for several pharmaceutical companies and has participated in a number of regional, national and international educational programs. In 1999 he was given the National Headache Foundation’s Lectureship Award, and he remains active in the education of primary care physicians and specialists in the care of patients with headache.

Dr. Kaniecki graduated summa cum laude from the University of Notre Dame where he was named a Notre Dame Scholar and to the Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Epsilon Delta Honor Societies. He attended the Washington University School of Medicine, graduated second in his class, and received Alpha Omega Alpha and several scholastic awards. Following his graduation, he completed his medical and neurology training at Barnes Hospital and Washington University, where he served as chief resident his final year. In 1992 he was named the Barnes Hospital Resident Teacher of the Year.
