Research at the UPMC Magee Center for Reproduction and Transplantation

Research is integral to all we do at the UPMC Magee Center for Reproduction and Transplantation (CRT).

It ensures that we are:

  • Providing cutting-edge, "best practice" reproductive services for people today.
  • Leading the way in finding and offering new and better services for people tomorrow.

Our current areas of research include:

  • Developing next-generation methods to treat the most complex cases of infertility (no eggs, no sperm).
  • Designing and implementing new options to preserve the fertility of people who are at risk of infertility. Risks can include medical treatments (cancer, bone marrow transplantation, gender dysphoria and others), diseases, syndromes (Klinefelter syndrome, Turner syndrome), age, and other issues.
  • Advancing stem cell and gonadal tissue transplantation therapies for infertility.
  • Finding gene mutations that cause infertility.
  • Learning the impact of COVID-19 on male fertility.
  • Translating lab bench discoveries into practice at the bedside.
  • Studying in-vitro approaches to produce sperm or eggs.
