Fulfilling the Mission
The mission of the UPMC Horizon Community Health Foundation is to contribute to an improved quality of life in UPMC Horizon's service area through sponsorship of programs which provide improved access to health care for area residents; which promote improved health and wellness; which identify, call attention to, and address unmet human service needs; and which promote cooperation among area health and human service organizations.
Supporting the Mission, Sharing the Wealth
You can help extend the work of the UPMC Horizon Community Health Foundation by making a tax-deductible gift. Your contribution is a good investment. Each gift contributes to the improved health and welfare of the community. For further information about the foundation, as well as various giving options, please contact us.
Promoting Cooperation and Improving Access to Services
The Foundation's mission to improve the health and well-being of the community it serves is carried out through the funding of community projects. For the past few years, the Foundation's commitment has been to provide grants toward community projects, the Medical Equipment Recycling Program, and programs from the various restricted funds established by the Foundation.
Identifying and Addressing Unmet Needs
The Medical Equipment Recycling Program, partially funded by the foundation, continues to provide refurbished medical equipment free of charge to residents within the UPMC Horizon area who lack appropriate insurance coverage.
Promoting Improved Health and Wellness
In 2001 the foundation established an endowed fund for the Dr. C. Howard Miller Health Education Lecture Series. Each year investment earnings from the fund will be used to sponsor a health education event. The fund was created to honor the memory of C. Howard Miller, DO, a respected member of the medical community in the UPMC Horizon area.
The Foundation Board
Gatekeepers of the mission and donor investment
The UPMC Horizon Community Health Foundation Board carefully investigates the issues, seeks appropriate partners, and oversees how grant dollars are spent. Board members take seriously their responsibility to make the most of all gifts received. Members of the board represent a cross-section of the communities UPMC Horizon serves.
The work is far from over. The fact is, in many ways, the board believes it has just begun. Board members and foundation supporters believe everyone should have the opportunity to benefit from a healthy and vibrant community, no matter what their level of interest or need.
