Requirements
The UPMC Administrative Fellowship is intended for post-graduates who have completed their graduate studies within the last 18 months.
Candidates must possess excellent analytic and communication skills, should be motivated and self-starting, and adaptive to change. Prior to starting the fellowship program, interested applicants must have a master's degree* from an accredited university in:
- Health Administration (MHA), CAHME accredited University
- Public Health (MPH), CEPH accredited University
- Business Administration (MBA), AMBA, AACSB, IACBE or EQUIS accredited University.
- Or other related master's degree program
Please note UPMC is unable to offer employer sponsorship for employment authorization for the Administrative Fellowship position.

*Candidates finishing master's degree programs requiring an administrative residency after completing classroom curriculum are eligible to apply. Accepted candidates are required to complete both years of the administrative fellowship program.

Application Materials
Submit one combined PDF that includes the following in order:
- Resume
- Undergraduate transcript (official or unofficial)
- Graduate transcript (official or unofficial)
- Two letters of recommendation*:
- One professional
- One from the graduate program director or a graduate school professor
- Personal statement (maximum 2 pages)
- Single-spaced
- 12 pt Times New Roman font
*We recognize that some recommenders may prefer their recommendation letters to be confidential. If they would like to send the recommendation letter directly, please have them send it to adminfellowship@upmc.edu with the applicant’s name in the email subject line.
The personal statement must address all of the following prompts in a cohesive essay format:
- Describe how the UPMC Fellowship Program aligns with your professional career goals in both the short-term (1-5 years) and long-term (5+ years).
- Discuss your first work experience (college or earlier) and describe the valuable skills it provided to you.
- Provide a brief summary of hobbies and personal interests.
- To demonstrate the track(s) you are interested in, please answer the following question(s). If you are interested in multiple tracks, please respond to all applicable questions.
- If you are interested in applying for the Health Services Division track: When you imagine contributing to the future of health care, what types of problems do you feel most motivated to solve, and why?
- If you are interested in applying for the Insurance Services Division track: Integrated delivery and finance systems (IDFS), such as UPMC, allow for collaboration between insurers and healthcare providers to most effectively tackle complex problems. From this perspective, describe a healthcare problem that you believe would be better addressed by the insurance side rather than a healthcare provider. Why do you think the insurance side is the right place to address it?
