Partnerships to Foster a Healthy Community

Addressing Food Insecurity
UPMC collaborates with trusted community partners to ensure individuals and families have access to nutritious food and supportive resources.
Community Food Boxes
- Non-perishable food boxes are available at:
- The UPMC Community Life Center located in the Williamsport YMCA.
- UPMC emergency departments.
- UPMC outpatient centers.

Central Pennsylvania Food Bank Partnership
UPMC partners with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank to address food insecurity across North Central Pennsylvania through coordinated food distribution and outreach initiatives.
- Supports access to food for individuals and families throughout the region.
- Helps reduce food insecurity through emergency food distribution and community-based programs.
Fill Your Trunk, Feed Your Family
- A collaborative mobile food distribution event in partnership with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.
- Provides free, pre-packed food items directly to families in need.
- Designed to offer a dignified, convenient, and accessible way for community members to receive food support.
- Events are hosted throughout the region and supported by UPMC staff, volunteers, and community partners.
Community Gardens and Fresh Food Access
UPMC supports local gardening initiatives that provide fresh produce, educational opportunities, and meaningful community connection.
Salvation Army Community Garden & Urban Farm of Williamsport
- The Salvation Army in Williamsport provides vital support to families facing food insecurity.
- The Red Shield Community Garden, located behind the Williamsport YMCA, has been a tremendous success.
- The garden has produced more than 15,000 pounds of fresh produce for individuals and families in need.
- Fresh produce is donated to:
- Local families.
- Central Pennsylvania Food Bank (Williamsport).
- This initiative supports sustainable food access, healthy eating, and community well-being
Potter County Community Garden
The Potter County Community Garden is a vibrant initiative made possible through collaboration with the Potter County Commissioners and a generous grant from UPMC.

Community Health and Wellness
Community Life Center
UPMC's Community Life Center serves people through special wellness programs and screenings to achieve a healthy lifestyle, often at a reduced fee or complimentary, to the community. The Community Life Center’s offerings include:
- Consultations on nutrition, weight and cholesterol management, and stress reduction.
- Daily heart rate, oxygen level, and blood pressure screenings.
- Bone density screenings, body fat percentage checks, hearing, vision, and BMI tests.
- Height and weight checks for infants, children, and adults.
- Physician-led programs on a variety of health topics.
- Referrals to special services and community agencies.
- Self-care reference materials.
- Safe Sitter® program for students age 11-16.

With highly trained staff from a variety of clinical backgrounds, our wellness centers provide robust programs and services to help you identify, practice and achieve fitness goals that are right for you and your life.

Mobile Health Unit
The Mobile Health Unit is a cutting-edge clinic on wheels, designed to bring high-quality health care directly to rural communities across northcentral Pennsylvania. This innovative initiative ensures that individuals facing transportation barriers, or other social determinants of health, receive the care they need without compromise.

Community Health Needs Assessment
Every three years UPMC partners with more than 10 local agencies, institutions, and organizations within our counties to complete a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) to better understand the community and its unique chronic health issues and needs.

Community Athletics
Little League Baseball World Series

- UPMC provides a team of medical professionals to offer health care to the young athletes, coaches, and umpires during the summer games. Medical team preparation for the Little League Baseball® World Series games begins months in advance with strategic planning meetings, health reports, and medical supply inventories.
Year-round sports medicine coverage is provided to young athletes with certified athletic trainers to area school athletic programs. Athletic trainers work onsite in area high schools and colleges to provide health care to student athletes.
