Endometriosis Treatment Team

There's no cure for endometriosis, but there is hope. The first step toward diagnosis and treatment is to share your symptoms with your doctor.

Any number of treatment options may help improve your quality of life.

At the UPMC Magee-Womens Endometriosis Center in central Pa., we'll work together to create a treatment plan designed for you.

Non-opioid-containing Pain Medications

Inflammation plays a large role in endometriosis symptoms.

Anti-inflammatory drugs that do not contain opioids can:

  • Help control inflammation.
  • Offer long-term relief from painful cramps.
  • Help relieve other endometriosis pain.

Hormone Therapy

Hormone therapy could include:

  • Birth control pills or other oral treatments that contain hormones.
  • Shots or other treatments that regulate the amount of estrogen produced by the ovaries.
  • Progesterone IUDs that apply hormones right to the womb's inner lining.

Pelvic Floor Therapy

Endometriosis can affect your bladder, bowel, and pelvic floor health.

Constipation, diarrhea, and a distended bladder can all cause symptoms to flare.

Pelvic floor therapy is a special type of physical therapy that can help manage your symptoms.

Surgery to Treat Endometriosis

Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery may be an option for you.

Your doctor will talk to you in detail about your options — from fertility-sparing surgery to hysterectomy.

Many women with endometriosis suffer symptoms up to — and sometimes beyond — menopause.

Our doctors know how this disease impacts your life and are here to help.
