UPMC Safe Haven Program: When You're Not Ready for Parenthood

Are you pregnant and scared or alone?

If you're not ready to care for a newborn and don't have anyone who can help, we're here for you. Safe Haven lets you drop off your baby — up to 28 days old — at any Pennsylvania hospital and all UPMC hospitals.

You won't get in trouble, and you'll know your baby is safe.

How Safe Haven Works

As long as your baby isn't harmed or a victim of a crime, you:

  • Can drop your baby off at any UPMC hospital — no questions asked.
  • Do not need to give us your name, address, or any other personal details.
  • Can provide information about your baby's health only if you choose.

When you arrive, a UPMC doctor will examine your baby and provide any needed care. Then, the agency for children and youth in your county will find a family for your baby.
