This test uses radio waves and magnets to create cross-sectional, high-resolution images of the heart.
Let your doctor know if you have any metal objects or devices in your body, if you are pregnant, or if you do not like small, confined spaces. You will be asked to remove your clothing from the waist up and change into a hospital gown. You may receive contrast dye via IV to help get a better picture of your heart.
You will lie flat on your back on a table that will be moved into the MRI machine. The MRI technologist can see and hear you throughout the test, which may take up to an hour or longer. Because the machine is loud, you may wear ear plugs or listen to music during the test.
The images will be reviewed by the radiologist and cardiologist and the results will be sent to your doctor.
